Major event that illuminates San Francisco every winter by transforming its historic monuments into spectacular bright art works. This international festival celebrates creativity and innovation by installing monumental projections on the city's iconic facades, attracting thousands of visitors to admire the meeting between architectural heritage and contemporary digital art.
The Project
Designed specifically for the majestic facade of the Pacific Coast Stock Exchange, iconic neoclassical building in San Francisco's financial district, Aeva is an experience of video mapping 3 to 4 minutes which offers a poetic and visual immersion in the winter universe.
Narrative Concept
The work explores winter not as an end, but as a necessary passageA breath suspended between two worlds, between sleep and awakening. Through a refined and highly symbolic visual narrative, Aeva Incarnates a winter presence, a silent and caring divinity that does not come to freeze the world, but prepare it for its metamorphosis. Its breath gives rise to the cold: the frost settles delicately on the stone, the ice redraws the architectural lines with organic precision, and the cold becomes tangible material, almost palpable.
This poetic approach reinvents our perception of winter, traditionally associated with hybernation, to make it a moment of creative pregnancy, where under the apparent immobility, all future life prepares in silence.
Visual and Technical Universe
The mapping unfolds a coherent and pure chromatic palette: deep blues evoking the winter night, light turquoises reminiscent of the translucent ice, and glazed whites sculpting the light. The animations are inspired by natural crystal structures, mathematical fractal motifs and fluid movements that fit the geometry of the facade. The visual rhythm, both calm and lively, oscillates between contemplative suspension and organic pulsation, creating hypnotic breathing.
Gradually, signs of transformation emerge from this icy landscape: warm pulses that subtly warm the cold palette, sparkling life that pierce the frozen surface, stylized plant forms that stretch towards the light. Winter begins to crack gently, revealing its luminous flaws, to give way to a renewal in the future. Touches of vibrant red, deep bordeaux and golden light appear as an inner bloom, evoking the promise of spring and murmured hope in the heart of winter solstice.
Sound Creation
The visual experience is magnified by a original musical composition of Elefan, a sound artist whose ambient and kinematic universe perfectly harmonizes with visual narration. The soundtrack works as a second breath of the work, weaving sound textures that amplify the emotional and immersive experience of the viewer. The sounds evolve from cold and crystal to warmer and organic harmonies, accompanying the sensory journey from the gel to awakening.
Optimistic Vision
Aeva famous winter as a fertile threshold rather than a conclusion. A suspended moment where everything seems to be asleep, but where already, in a halo of warm light, something awakens and blows gently. This contemporary and resolutely optimistic interpretation of the cold season offers visual meditation on natural cycles, the patience necessary for any transformation, and the beauty inherent in the transition periods.
In the vibrant urban context of San Francisco, Aeva invites spectators to slow down, to contemplate, and to recognize in winter not an enemy to fight, but a silent ally who prepares the ground for the coming rebirths.
